Owd Grandad Piggott

It is strange how, as you get older, certain things seem to find a special place in your memories. For me, one of those things was listening to the stories about Owd Grandad Piggott on BBC Radio Stoke on Trent.
For People outside the Stoke on Trent area, the tales told about this old man from Longton may seem a little odd, but Alan Povey brought to life an image of this old rogue as he told them in a fairly mild potteries accent. Owd Piggott was not a nice man, the way he treated people, especially his wife was really bad, but it did describe a way of life that , at one time, was quite common here.
I have lived in the potteries all my life, and have had first hand experience of what a very strong potteries accent was like when I met a miner one day and had no idea what he was talking about! Alan Povey however, just told these stories in an accent that was strong enough to bring back memories but no too strong. That way you could unerstand what was being said and enjoy the things that OGP used to get up to in old Longton.
These pages are just pictures of the Lp's, CD's and Cassettes I have in my small collection.
Thanks to Ken C, I now can add Owd grandad piggot greatest hits, and Fower Ton O'scrap to my collection.....

If you have any recordings of Owd Grandad Piggot that you can't see on either of these 2 pages (I know that I am missing at least 3 - 'The last Grandad', 'Lullaby of Queen Street' and 'Bacon Sandwich'), please feel free to contact me using my web form HERE as I would love to hear them or to have the opportunity to purchase them
I would also love to hear if you have any info about any of these recording (dates etc) that I could put up here with them. Please note - I don't have any spare copies of any of the recordings/books shown on these pages, so I can't sell any, sorry.
Thank you very much

Best regards
Martin Kessel
