Thomas Cook Holiday to the Hotel Arum, Side, Turkey

March 2006

This holiday was booked so that we could view the total eclipse of the sun . It was for a week at the rather pleasant Hotel Arum which was about 40 mins walk from the old town of Side.
Side itself has an old and new section - the old bit is the most interesting as it has an abundance of ancient Greek and Roman Ruins. There were optional bus trips on offer from Thomas Cook and we went on the one to Perge and Aspendos.
I have to say that the Thomas Cook reps were not fantastic - they , on occasions gave wrong information and failed to deal with some problems (not ours) in a very sensible manner.
The Hotel however was fantastic. We found out about it via the Manchester Astronomy Club who went there in force (55 members).
As always, there follows a few pages of photos......
